13th Annual AIDS Walk of South Central Indiana

Mark your calendar! The Community AIDS Action Group will be hosting the 2017 South Central Indiana AIDS Walk, presented by the IU School of Public Health, on Friday, April 7 2017. The festival will be held at the Bloomington/Monroe County Convention Center parking lot on the east side of 3rd and College Ave beginning at 5:30p.m. Walk registrants are encouraged to raise donations for the walk and all funds will go to IU Health Positive Link, the region’s HIV Prevention and Client Services organization serving South Central Indiana.

Because this year's theme is, "Light the Night," the festival and walk will incorporate glow-in-the-dark activities including a bounce house and face painting. Admittance to the festival is free. Registration for the walk is $25.00 per person and includes a t-shirt and two glow items. The festival will begin at 5:30p.m. and the walk will step off around 8:00p.m.

For more information and for individual and team registration visit www.btownaidswalk.org. Online registration will close on Thursday, April 6th but individuals and teams will be able to register on-site beginning at 5:30p.m. at the event.

Best Buddies Indiana is hosting its 2017 gala “A Celebration of Friendship” on March 4 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom.

Residential Fire at Monroe County Sheriff Deputy's Home

Even first responders are not immune to the horrors of tragic life events. Reserve Deputy Jason Miller returned home to his residence on South Swartz Ridge Road yesterday evening from dinner with his family and discovered that his residence was fully engulfed in a fire. After the devastating fire was put out, the family of four left their home to stay with family. Unfortunately, the fire re-ignited and caused tremendous damage once again; leaving the residence structurally compromised and the contents of the residence being deemed a total loss; leaving Deputy Miller, his wife, and their two teenage children with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

Reserve Deputy Jason Miller has been a member of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office since May 2nd, 2016. After taking his oath as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff, Deputy Miller completed the required training for his certification and has been a very active member of the Reserve Unit. His dedication working the roadways and IU Athletic traffic details is a testament to his character and willingness to serve the public.

Although the Miller family was insured, they are facing a long road ahead to begin replacing essential items such as clothing, bedding and other everyday items. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office will be accepting donations in the form of gift cards or cash if you are able to help the Miller family. Donations can be mailed to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office at 301 North College Avenue Bloomington, IN 47404 or can be dropped off in person between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm Monday through Friday.
