June Is Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month

June is Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month, a time dedicated to increasing public awareness of Alzheimer's disease, available resources and how people can get involved to support the cause. During the month of June, Gov. Eric Holcomb invites Hoosiers to raise awareness and take action through the Alzheimer's Association Greater Indiana Chapter's 65 Ways to Go Purple.

Zambelli Fireworks Company Show

Beech Creek Township Eastern Fire Department is excited to announce that the Solsberry Fireworks are returning this year. There will be food and live music leading up to the fire works show at dusk. Any questions, you can call the fire department at (812)825-9969.

Stinesville Lions Club

It's time for the 4th annual community yard sale and craft fair sponsored by the Stinesville Lions Club. It will be held at the Stinesville Lions Club, on Stinesville Rd., Saturday, June 23, from 8am-6pm.

 

Cubs scout pack #107 will be serving breakfast beginning at 8am.

 

We will also have a fish fry that will start at 4pm.

For teens entering grades 7-12. Teen summer reading lasts 11 weeks, come to the Teen Room to register and collect prizes for reading!

 

Children’s Summer Reading Program

            May 25 – August 8

Stop by one of the libraries and get a reading log. Mark off how many minutes you read. After you have filled a page. 4 Hours of reading, return your log to the library and collect a prize. The first prize is a free book! Sign up May 25 – August 8. Collect prizes June 2 – August 8

ADULTS! Join our cooking club and learn how to make your kitchen rock! We’ll be using fresh seasonal ingredients that you can find at the Farmer’s Market or the local grocery store!

Recipes will be advertised the week before so make sure to watch for what we’re making so you can plan ahead! Ingredients provided.

Shawnee Rocks!

Shawnee Theatre will once again visit the library for a Meet the Actors program. Actors from the play, “If You See Me Forgetting You – A Neverland Adventure” will be available to meet children and parents, answer questions, and share a little about the play. Refreshments will be served after the program.

IU Track and Field

Visit Bloomington has partnered with Indiana University and USA Track and Field to bring the 2018 USA Track and Field Junior Outdoor Championships to the IU Campus in Bloomington from June 15th through 17th. Volunteers will ensure the meet runs smoothly at each station. You can get up close to the exciting field events including High Jump, Shot Put, and Pole Vault, along with all of the races. Check out the days, times, and volunteer positions available online. Families and sports teams are encouraged to sign-up together, but the minimum age is 13. Area 10 Agency on Aging is seeking individuals age 18 and above to support the Monroe and Owen County Adult Guardianship Program as volunteer advocates. 

Training is provided and a commitment of 6-10 hours per month is required. Apply now to join the next orientation and training group. Contact Area 10 Agency on Aging.

Seekers of Serenity Nar-Anon Family Group

Affected by a Loved One’s Addiction?

 

Seekers of Serenity, the local Nar-Anon Family Group offers hope for relatives and friends of addicts, with their twelve-step program. Seekers of Serenity meets each Tuesday evening at 7:30pm at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, upstairs in Room 224.
